Welcome to Pantry Partners

Upcycling Wool to Feed Hungry People

The mittens are available for a donation of $35 per pair; dryer balls are available for $20 for a set of three. 100% of proceeds go directly to three food pantries: St. Vincent de Paul, WayForward Resources, and The River Food Pantry.

The Process

How Pantry Partners of Dane County turns wool sweaters into mittens

  • 1

  • 2
    Felting
  • 3
    Patterns
  • 4
    Sewing
  • 5

  • 6
    Finishing

Wool sweaters are donated by Madison-area thrift stores and Pantry Partners' supporters.

Next ⇒

Volunteers launder the sweaters in hot water and dry them in hot dryers, causing the sweaters to shrink or “felt.”

⇐ Prev Next ⇒

Pattern pieces are cut from the felted wool, combining complementary colors and designs.

⇐ Prev Next ⇒

The pieces are machine sewn into mittens into women's and men's sizes.

⇐ Prev Next ⇒

Each pair is lined with cozy fleece.

⇐ Prev Next ⇒

Women's mittens are embellished with buttons, which are also donated.
